    • Run 4 Hope - M/V Agusta F4

    •   Cook's Corner - Saturday 11-07-09     M/V Agusta F4 Run 4 Hope to benefit Union Rescue Mission’s Hope Gardens Family Center Hosted by the SoCal Chrome Divas & Iron Ridin Dames Women and children make up 41% (or 23,000) of Los Angeles County’s homeless population. The reasons are many, and in most cases, beyond their control: lack of affordable housing, domestic violence, underemployment, death of a spouse, lack of marketable skills, and/or mental illness. Single mothers with 2 or more children head approximately 84% of homeless families. Young people experiencing homelessness are presented with special developmental challenges: they are more likely to be sick, twice as likely as other children to repeat a grade in school, and twice as likely to be diagnosed with a learning disability.  As families move from stable home addresses to the streets, education and access to familiar resources are compromised. Union Rescue Mission’s Hope Gardens Family Center is dedicated to this population. As families with children of all ages come to Hope Gardens from all over Los Angeles,  Hope Gardens seeks to remove them from the cycle of homelessness for good and empower them with the tools toward self-sufficiency. It is located at the juncture of Santiago Canyon and Live Oak Canyon roads. Cook's Corner was named after Andrew Jackson Cook, who got about 190 acres of Aliso Canyon in a land trade in 1884. In 1926, his son, Earl Jack "E.J." Cook converted a cabin into a restaurant for miners and local ranchers. After Prohibition ended in 1933, alcohol begain being sold, and Cook's Corner became a full-fledged bar. In 1946, Cook bought an old mess hall from the Santa Ana Army Air Base and the tavern was born. In 1970, a Santa Ana motorcycle accessories owner purchased it and Cooks Corner was molded into what it represents today…an old-fashioned roadhouse. Cook's (as it is normally referred) is still as rugged-looking as a World War II-era-mess-hall-turned-biker-bar should look. • MV AGUSTA was born during the postwar reconstruction period. Founded in the 1945, it actually initially produced and commercialized the first fifty units in 1946 riding the wave of an era that will mark the conquest of individual mobility. To give an image and value to its production, MV AGUSTA launched its challenge in competition terrain, adopting a philosophy which soon became also a commercial slogan: “Racing experience at the service of mass production.” Three years after the birth of the World Championship, S. Sandford conquered (1952) the Title in the 125 category and, in parallel, marked the beginning of an era characterized by the crushing domination of MV AGUSTA motorcycles. For over 20 years, the red and silver fairings identified motorcycles capable of making a legend of all those who were privileged enough to grasp its handlebars. Amongst these apart from Giacomo Agostini, whom alone conquered 14 of the 37 World Titles, the passionate fans were enthusiastic about the exploits by Surtess, Hocking, Hailwood, Read, Ubbiali and Provini, all riders that contributed with their results to the record of 270 Gran Prix wins by MV AGUSTA. During this unforgettable competitive period, the most indelible wins were those conquered in the top class, the 500. Dressed in red and silver, these invincible “record machines” took the hearts of all fans sensitive to the esoteric charm of the inline four cylinder. An engine endowed with an extraordinary force largely underlined by the four megaphone-like exhausts, responsible for an unforgettable and terrifying roar. Distinguishing features that could not remain an exclusive heritage of the fortunate witnesses of that unforgettable era, needed to testify also in the future. Beginning late in 1999, the first MV Agusta models arrived in the United States and were met with overwhelming approval from both the industry press and the public. Since that time, the MV Agusta line has expanded from the original F4 Serie d' Oro, and the F4-S, to include four new models.

    • On 9-11-08, a free motorcycle ride was dedicated to the memory of the 343 FDNY Firemen, 61 Police Officers and all those who tragically lost their lives on that historic day. Our goal is to draw Patriotic Americans together on a Remembrance Ride to honor these brave Americans. "The Ride" started at Cooks Corner and traveled down Laguna Canyon to the Pacific Coast Highway ending in Long Beach. The ride finished at a homemade memorial, at the home of a Long Beach Fireman, with a brief 20- minute Patriotic Remembrance Ceremony.
