Lifelong Biker Fulfills his Destiny at Bulldog Bash
The chance to create a custom bike can be a dream come true for many riders, but one chopper fan picked up the his new ride on the day it won Best in Show at Bulldog Bash 24.
Keith Lee-Davies may have thought nothing could top being handed the keys to his custom Harley Davidson Sportster after an intensive eight month build – until some of the biking world’s most discerning judges handed him the coveted title.
The chopper also scooped the Best Paint prize, for its retro-style artwork inspired by the legendary American tattoo artist Sailor Jerry.
Keith, who has worked as a tattooist for 37 years, has loved choppers since he was a child and always dreamed of creating his own custom model. He said: “I had a big lump in my throat when I went to see it for the first time. I said I’d have one built when I was a kid, but this bike is beyond all expectations. Who could ask for more than that?
“Then we got Best in Show for it – incredible. I’m glad the judges and the people at the Bulldog Bash loved this bike as I do.”
The chop was built to Keith’s specifications by Vic Jefford of Destiny Cycles. Vic is no stranger to Custom Show victory, having now won the coveted Best in Show just last year, with his High Roller trike.
Elsewhere at Europe’s biggest motorcycle festival, music fans continued to enjoy performances on the new open-air Area 81 Stage. The main stage remained as popular as ever, with appearances from eclectic latino sleaze-punks the Gypsy Pistoleros and acclaimed Blues Brothers tribute act the Brothers Grimm – reunited at Bulldog Bash 24 for their first gig in 11 years.
This year, as with every other, the Bulldog Bash teamed up with the local community to raise cash for charity including Stratford’s Shakespeare Hospice. Meanwhile Stratford on Avon Rotary Club’s fresh produce stall packed in the punters, and stallholders are confident they’ve raised a huge sum once again this year.
David Butler, District Governor for the Rotary Club, said: “We and the bikers have a fantastic association and have raised thousands of pounds for charity. Hopefully it’ll continue for the next 20 years as far as I’m concerned. I think it’s great.”
Georgina Holding from local charitable society Henley Inner Wheel added: “The Bulldog Bash is absolutely wonderful, the only venue my husband would allow me to come to on my own for a weekend because he knows I’ll be perfectly safe. I bring my daughter and we’re always well looked after.”
Wet conditions put the brakes on the drag strip for the second day running. But the organisers have pledged that everyone who signed up to race can do so for free on Sunday, while professional entrants will also be tackling the strip – weather permitting.
